Finishing Touches

We finish the edges on a variety of our products (we also have products with unfinished edges as well for a touch of character). Let us explain why and how we finish those edges.

What is the Purpose of a Finished Edge?

A finished edge not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of a leather item but also serves a functional purpose. It helps to protect the edges of the leather from fraying, moisture, and wear and tear, ultimately extending the lifespan of the product. It is essential for leather product that gets used frequently, such as wallets.

How Do We Finish the Edges of Our Products?

We use a variety of techniques, including burnishing, which involves slicking or smoothing the edges of the leather. This meticulous process ensures a clean, polished look that is both visually appealing and durable.

Why is Burnishing Important?

Burnishing is a time-consuming process that requires skill and precision. Depending on the size of the item, burnishing can add hours to the crafting process. However, the end result is well worth the effort. Burnished edges not only look professional but also provide added protection against everyday wear and tear.

Other Edge Finishing Techniques

In addition to burnishing, we sometimes paints and dyes to finish the edges of our leather products. These techniques allow us to customize the look of the edges, adding a pop of color or a subtle contrast to the overall design.

When it comes to leather goods, every detail matters. The finished edge is a small but crucial element that's worth to invest. For example, Investing in a wallet with a finished edge is not just about immediate gratification; it's a decision that pays off in the long run. The durability provided by a finished edge means that your wallet will maintain its quality and appearance for years to come.
